The Nokia Lumia 1020 is considered to be one of the best Windows Phone handsets on the market, mostly because of its 41-megapixel PureView camera. However, it seems that even the phenomenal camera couldn’t save the Lumia 1020 – according to evleaks, the smartphone will reach End of Life status on September 14.
Microsoft is yet to confirm any of this.
We assume that End of Life means that the phone won’t be produced anymore and that sales will stop soon after that. This may come as a surprise to some, sad news to others, but it might also mean that a successor to the Lumia 1020 is on the way. We’ve heard rumours about Nokia planning a number of new devices, both high-end and mid-range, and the successor to the good, old Lumia 1020 might just be among them. There aren’t many details about upcoming handsets at this point, but our guess is that info about some of them will start leaking soon enough.
Nokia launched the Lumia 1020 in July last year with a 4.5in display, 2GB of RAM, a dual-core Snapdragon processor and 32GB of storage. Naturally, what made it stand out and what it will be remembered for was the 41-megapixel camera, accompanied by Carl Zeiss optics, OIS, Xenon and LED flash.
