When I first saw Empty Man hit the shelves I wasn’t exactly sure if I was going to pick it up. Then I read issue 1. Now I have to finish out the series. Cullen Bunn has a very vivid and disturbing imagination. I really want to know what this Empty Man is. In this book we get a bit more of what happened years ago. More completely off the wall ways to die. You can see in one of the preview pages below. Agent Langford and Jensen encounter some sort of giant bug that takes the life of one of the “witnesses”. There is some sort of Witness Cult that the two agents believe might be behind the kidnappings of the children. Jensen attacks and gets attacked from this monster bug or whatever it is. It seems to have some affect on her and it doesn’t look too good.
This is yet another limited series that I picked up that I didn’t realize it was just that. I went back and looked at the fine print inside the cover of the first issue and noticed the 1 (of 6) but this book made it prominent by putting that on the cover. I guess I have to accept the fact that most of the series that I read are going to be very limited from the independant publishers. I do enjoy the stories as well as this particular title. Like I mentioned before, I wasn’t sure I was even going to pick it up but I am glad that I did because it is very interesting and original. It is a different kind of horror comic and makes you use your own imagination a bit. The story is already turning on the main characters and where it goes next, only the Empty Man will know.
