It takes some serious creativity to be able to surprise someone with only 3 minutes and 15 seconds, yet the first track off O Emperor’s second record Vitreous, “Grandmother Mountain”, does just that. The song’s opening, a slow, meandering piano melody and casual, lovely vocals, could easily sustain the entire piece, but things truly take off when the sound makes a sharp left towards something louder. Of course, that’s not the only quick change “Grandmother Mountain” makes — at one point, the song turns into fuzzed out guitar craziness. Check out the thrilling track above and make sure to listen to Vitreous in full on Soundcloud. It’s well worth it!
