Emmys Fashion: Color Inspiration for Fall and Beyond

By Irisinteriors @IrisHoulihan

There is a strong relationship between the worlds of fashion and interior design. The parade of outfits at the Emmys can certainly serve as an inspiration for color palettes. Here are some of my favorites from the red carpet:

Sofia Vergara always takes bombshell to the next level. Her Vera Wang gown is the perfect shade of red. Red can make for a dramatic accent wall or a shade to incorporate in the form of accessories.

To update your space for autumn, consider swapping out summery elements and replacing them with accents in a color like this burgundy Vera Wang dress. We always love dark and chic.

Carrie Underwood’s Romona Keveza gown brings to mind formally draped Dupioni silk window treatments. Would she take that as a compliment? The deep purple is a bold way to welcome fall.

Girls actress Allison Williams wore a simple, royal blue Ralph Lauren gown.  Jewel tones warm up a space. I could see this color on walls or upholstery.

Sarah Hyland was the epitome of sophistication in CH by Carolina Herrera. This is another excellent example of a rich jewel tone. Plus, emerald green was named the 2013 Color of the Year by Pantone.

Mikaela Hoover gave other fashionable celebrities a run for their money in an elegant, lacy, cream gown. Neutrals, such as white, cream, champagne, beige, and nudes were all over the red carpet. Neutral tones are always a classic backdrop. Similar to Emmys fashion, a lot of my clients have been opting for neutral paint colors, even white. I then add color through fabric and art.

Here are a few ideas for translating these fashion trends into your design:

Sherwin Williams Positive Red (SW 6871) exudes confidence. Use this fearless paint color on an accent wall or paint an entire room and complement it with more sedate hues.

Take a cue from the deep, warm tones with the Safavieh Mystic Storage Ottoman available at the Iris Interiors Shop.

Benjamin Moore Paddington Blue gives walls a vivid, yet romantic wash of color.

How chic is this purple velvet Chesterfield sofa? It’s available at CoCoCo.

Starlets looked anything but boring in nude, beige, and white gowns. Dress up a neutral wall color with textiles and accessories in autumnal shades.
