Emirates #HelloEast | Newcastle

By Hellofreckles @tashajsteel
On Saturday I headed along to the Centre For Life in Newcastle, where Emirates were holding their Go East festival, celebrating street food and entertainment with a  heavy Eastern focus.
There was no shortage of entertainment and the drumming and music could be heard outside of the Centre For Life complex. If that wasn't enough to draw people in, the smell of food would've lured them towards the vendors.
We tried a lot of chicken dishes, since I'm not really one for eating duck which was the other main meat on the menu for Saturday. The Chicken Pad Thai from The Asian Project was really good and full of flavor. We also had the Chicken Baidi Roti, a folded flatbread filled with chicken, red onion, mint leaves and homemade chutneys - though we skipped on the egg and I'm glad we did. There was a lot of different flavours and a strong mint taste which complimented the chicken and it was a nice alternative to the shawarma from Papa Ganoush we tried which was in quite a thick flatbread. The Baidi Roti was more like a light flatbread and if we hadn't been so full from all the other food, I would've definitely finished the plate!

A great afternoon out and the weather couldn't have been better. As I wasn't driving I even opted for a Date Honey Julep from Dubai; a mix of mint leaves, date honey and lemon juice. Shaken with whiskey and apple juice, served over ice. It was very refreshing!
Look out for Emirates bringing #HelloEast to a city near you, it's a great way to experience Eastern culture and try some new food. They've also got a really exciting competition you can enter to win tickets to fly to an Eastern destination of your choice!

Emirates invited me along to their festival, with a few complimentary vouchers. I've written about this as I had a lovely afternoon and you know I enjoy food...
