Embracing Autumn

By Smilinglikesunshine @smilinglikesuns
After a great summer, the autumn is here. I am ready to embrace autumn with all the lovely things it brings. It is time to get into a routine after a lazy summer. Time to slow down before winter. Time to
It may still be sunny, but it was so chilly this morning. On the school run, Defne requested gloves. I told her that it's not time for gloves just yet but a couple of minutes later, I too felt very cold.
Autumn is a lovely time of the year. Especially here in England, I really like all the colours that you get to see when you visit the woods. The countryside looks gorgeous.
It is also very sensorial, so much to explore and do  with the children. Not only the nature, but I also like going to the museums, cinemas and theatres at this time of the year. With the beginning of the new season, there is always something new to see.
Then I like coming back to my home, snuggling up in the sofa, reading a book, drinking hot chocolate, baking cookies...Enjoying the things that we bring from outside:Leaves, acorns, chestnuts. Making crafts and pictures with these.
We are renting our current house so unfortunately we have to make do with what we have. We live in a Victorian house and although we have character fireplaces, they do not work. We have friends who have traditional gas stoves and I so much love sitting in front of a roaring fire. There is something so comforting about it. The fire creates a focal point and it is so cozy!
Nowadays fireplaces come in all sorts of designs. A couple of our friends bought gas fire baskets from Fireplace Megastore. There are some great models and once installed they make such a difference.
For me, autumn is also a season to declutter. I like sorting children's clothes seasonally and decluttering throughout the house in general. It helps me start to winter freshly.
I also try to prepare my body by drinking tepid water mixed with lemon and honey each and every morning. It is a great way to start the day.
Do you like autumn? How do your prepare your family for the seasonal changes?
