Special Investigation Unit of the Sri Lanka Police yesterday informed Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage that documents with regard to illegal handing over of three elephants Kandula, Mangala and Kanchana from the Wildlife Department to a defendant in the case on the directive of former President Maithripala Sirisena have disappeared from the Presidential Secretariat.
The SIU Director informed court that a statement was recorded from the former President in connection with this incident and the former President had said that a statement with regard to it cannot be given without pursuing the original document.
The Police informed that an Additional Secretary of the Presidential Secretariat had given a statement citing that the relevant files are not in the Presidential Secretariat.
