Eleanor Rigby by The Beatles.

So it’s evident that I’ve created a pattern of song titles with a person’s name. Though unlike Caroline & Oh, Sherrie, this song is not about love. It describes a woman who lived a very lonely life and died alone as well.

Eleanor Rigby was released in August of 1966 from the band’s seventh album, Revolver. The lyrics were mostly written by Paul McCartney with a double string quartet arrangement by George Martin. The name “Eleanor” was inspired by an actress named Eleanor Bron, who also starred with The Beatles in Help! “Rigby” was inspired by a store called, Bristol, Rigby & Evens Ltd, Wine & Spirit Shippers.

It makes you sad to hear songs like this. McCartney’s lyrics were a work of fiction but when you really think about it, there are people like Eleanor out there. I know.

All the lonely people
Where do they all come from?
All the lonely people
Where do they all belong?
