Eddie Murphy is making his return to acting with the upcoming Netflix movie Dolemite Is My Name.
Murphy is playing the role of Rudy Ray Moore, the star of the blaxploitation Dolemite films, and will also have producer credits.
Moore, who passed away in 2008, working at a record store in 1970 when he began hearing obscene stories of a hustler named “Dolemite.” Moore began recording the stories, and assumed the role of “Dolemite” in his club acts and on recordings. He went on to make numerous movies about the character.
According to Deadline the film begins production on June 12th.
