Reasons for you to turn vegetarian-
For your neglected pair of skinny jeans- No matter what people say, nobody will mind having a figure like Kate Moss...Isn't it! Think about all the saturated fats and carbohydrates that meat and processed foods bring to your table. That also reminds of the ease that vegetarians have in losing extra pounds. Vegetarians are one-third (vegans are about one-tenth) as likely to be obese as meat eaters. You can live healthier- It is proven time and again that vegetarian diets are healthier than an average non-vegetarian and processed food diet. You can prevent, treat and reverse heart disease and reduce the risk of monstrous cancer (think breast cancer women readers). Also, people with a low fat vegetarian diet grow up with cleaner arteries! In short, vegetarian diet is healthier inherently because it has least amount of animal fat or cholesterol (for vegans it is zero). And how can I forget all those food-borne illnesses that foods such as meat, poultry, fish and seafood carry. Hello! natural fruits and plants that are free of chemicals sound like a way better option to me. I am sure you agree! So, go on and stock your fridge with fresh veggies rich in fiber and antioxidants and not dead pieces of flesh
For the sake of the environment- Not many of us know this but chemical and animal waste run-off from factory farms is responsible for more than 173,000 miles of polluted rivers and streams and is one of the greatest threats to water quality today. Agriculture also does harm the environment through ploughing, pesticides, wrong irrigation practices, fertilisers, etc. but in comparison is really nothing.
The animals will thank you- I don´t know how important it may sound but it is the most important reason for me to tell anyone to take up vegetarianism. Billions of animals are slaughtered for human consumption each year. And, unlike ancient practices, today most animals are factory farmed: —crammed into tiny cages where they can barely move and fed a diet full of chemicals of sorts. Do you think the joy of our taste buds justify the pain these animals go through? I doubt.Whatmore, you can eat natural veggies and fruits without processing or cooking them too much as opposed to meat that needs good enough processing and lots of flavouring in order to taste good.
Some myths about vegetarian diet
It has no protein- Soy, pulses, legumes, dairy products, beans and grains have more protein than you can even imagine. Vegetables are around 23% protein on average, beans 28%, grains 13%, and even fruit has 5.5%. For comparison, human breast milk is only 6% (designed for the time in our lives when our protein needs are as high as they'll ever be). Professional recommendations for adults range from 2.5% to 10%, and plant foods supply that easily.A balanced vegetarian diet has all the required nutrients that your body needs to be healthy. (source- www.michaelbluejay.com)Many veg dishes are high on fat- Of course if you live on oodles of cheese or baked potatoes or the likes, then any diet will be high on fat. Instead go for a balanced diet full of variety of veggies, fruits, grains and pulses and opt for natural herbs and spices for cooking in place of oils, cheeses and artificial flavours.Carbs make you fat- Healthy carbs found in fruits and plants do not make you fat but healthy. Our body needs a little of every nutrient and carbs is one of them. You need meat for body building/workout- Well, if that was the case then Albert Beckles, Alexander Dargatz, Andreas Cahling, Giacomo Marches, Dalip Singh Rana and so many more would not have been famous body builders.
