Easy Tips on How to Make a Small Home Office Big

By Kravelv

We all know how it is important to have enough free space, especially when it comes to the business sector. General rule is to have as bigger as possible office space. But, sometimes it is simply impossible to achieve such thing, for the building where are you located, simply doesn’t allow remodelling, or it is too expensive. Luckily, there are some things you can exploit in order to enlarge your office, visually or practically. Read on to find out what are those advices, and feel free to apply those which you find attractive.

Lighting

The best way to make an impression of a large space is to introduce light into the office. This can be achieved by several ways, so choose the one you can undergo. The first one utilizes natural light source, so if you can, seize the opportunity, and use huge windows, which will let the light in. Also, if you have a view to a nearby park, this is a great feature. The sense of close connection with the nature will boost and kickstart the creativity of your employees, while the natural impact will be reflected in the sense of tranquillity and peace. Your co-workers will achieve better results, and will feel better in the process. Also, glass roof, and/or skylight have the similar effect. On the other hand, if you lack natural light source, it is always possible to introduce mirrors in the area. These will work in a way that will be a bit strange to you. Besides adding up to the lighting, it will also give the depth of the space, so you benefit twofold.

Walls

When it comes to painting of the walls, keep one thing in mind. The simpler, the better. Avoid using patterns and splashes with high contrast, this will suffocate the space, so the office will look smaller than it is. It would be wiser to go with one shaded walls, and flooring from wall to wall. This will create unity of these two, and will increase and open up the space for the observer. Also, avoid using rugs or carpets, for those can disturb this balance, and again, spoil the image. What you could do, however, is to pick up a few of your favorite motivational quotes, and to frame them, and put them on the wall. This is rather small detail, which will not break balance, and yet, by seeing it each day, both you and your co-workers will begin to apply it. Thrust me, this is an old advice, I have tried it, and it worked.

Working space

One of the most important things when it comes to strict are where you work, is its neatness. It needs to be tidy and clean. Avoid piling up folders and papers, for it looks ugly, and gives away the image of an unprofessional person. Besides, your productivity suffers, for it takes more time to find the paper you need at the moment. Speaking of paper, great word of advice is to reduce using it as much as possible. Go for electronic form, for these can be saved to one of the many cloud services, and on addition, the space which computer or a laptop takes is constant, while papers are always spreading. In addition, on longer run, it will reduce the need for storage cabinets, and will significantly improve communication among the employees. Instead to go around asking where particular paper is, you will need but a few clicks to find it. In that way, you also save time of our co-workers. In my recent conversation with a friend from office fitout company from Sydney, he told me that he noticed how demanding of storage cabinets, due to switching to electronic form.

Cables

I think that there is no worst nightmare than tangled cables stuffed behind your desk. Besides it takes out the much needed space, it also gives great opportunity for you to stretch your legs, and to plug out your computer, thus losing hours of hard work, if you didn’t save the progress. To avoid this, tie several cables using zip-lock stripe. These can be found easily, and their appliance is quite easy. Just make a bundle of cables, and lock them together with a zip-lock. Additionally, use cable tags to know what goes where, and what is safe to unplug.

So, with everything said taken into consideration, these are merely guidelines. All you need to do now is to apply those, and who knows, maybe will something useful cross your mind, so you can apply that too.
