Verdict on Earthquake Underground

Recap

This movie follows a group of people who get trapped in a building after an earthquake. Unlike normal quakes, the building has sunk into the ground and they must race to get out of the building through the roof. It fits the fun disaster idea where we get the group we want to see survive.

Best Parts

The idea of spinning the escape from an earthquake disaster is nice to see. It presents a different challenge and we go through the different plans to escape the situation. This keeps the idea simple and doesn’t make anything overly farfetched.

Worst Parts

This keeps everything feeling small-scale, despite seeing the major destruction on the outside. We see this from the helicopter pilots who are flying around the destruction, but it never makes that world feel lived in. Some of the situations are little moments of additional destruction, which can make things not feel like a race against time.

Final ThoughtsEarthquake Underground is an entertaining late-night disaster movie.
