dum aloo recipe based on onion tomato gravy with some fresh yogurt.This recipe is more gravy type than normal dum aloo recipe which is onion and garlic free and this one is too good for both roti and rice varieties.

I already shared dum aloo recipe in bengali style which is more based on tomato and there is no ginger and garlic and it is made along with some fresh peas.This recipe is different from the other one and here we are using both onion and garlic and i love the consistency of the recipe.You have to make freshly ground masala or roast your spices and made the masala for better results.

Normally the dum aloo recipe is made with baby potatoes,if you are not accessible with that,then use normal potatoes and chop into big cubes and then proceed the method.Use the potatoes with or without skin and dont forget to roast it in oil before add it into gravy.Prick your potatoes for quick frying and also to absorb the flavors from the gravy.lets move on making the recipe.,

potato gravy made with spices and fresh yogurt

Ingredients

  • potato,boiled - 200 gm
  • onion - 2 ,finely chopped
  • tomato - 1 finely chopped
  • fresh yogurt - 1/4 cup
  • red chilli powder - 1 teaspoon
  • turmeric powder - 1/4 teaspoon
  • coriander powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • garam masala - 1 teaspoon
  • asafoetida - a pinch
  • cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • ginger garlic paste - 1 teaspoon
  • salt - to taste
  • oil - as needed
Instructions
  1. Heat oil in the pan and shallow fry the potatoes which are already boiled in pressure cooker for 3 whistles.
  2. Once the potatoes get done,then remove it and reserve 1 tablespoon oil in the pan.drain the excess into a separate bowl.
  3. To the oil,add cumin seeds and once it starts crackle,then add asafoetida,finely chopped onions to it and saute it till it get soft.
  4. Add ginger garlic paste to it and saute it till raw smell leaves.To that add all the masalas starting from turmeric powder,red chilli powder,coriander powder and garam masala and roast it well.Make sure the flame should be in medium.
  5. Now add finely chopped tomatoes to it and saute till it get mushy and combines with everything.Add enough salt for the recipe in this stage and keep on mixing.
  6. Now add the fried potatoes to it and give a mix.Whisk 1/4 cup yogurt and make sure the yogurt is creamy and there are no chunks.Add it to the kadai and keep on stirring.
  7. Add enough water for the gravy and cook for 5 to 6 minutes in medium flame.Once got the perfect consistency,switch off the flame.Serve piping hot.
