SLPP Parliamentarian Dullas Alahapperuma yesterday said that he will contest the election for the Presidency. Alahapperuma said that he will contest the election to be held in Parliament on July 20 to elect the President.
The former Minister said that he is ready to contest the election with an objective of shaping a new political culture to inculcate high standards of values for the people of all communities devoid of party differences.
“I hope that legislators whose visions transcends traditional party boundaries will support him to build a country where people of all communities can live in peace and respect,” he said. Alahapperuma said that he has stood by the people during his entire political career spanning over three decades and he is of the view that a solution should be found for the current political impasse from within the Parliament itself. “It is my view that all should join together to evolve a mechanism aimed at solving the existing economical woes facing the country,” he said. Alahapperuma was of the view that assistance from the members of Maha Sangha, academia, Civil Society representatives, political activists and youths should be obtained to develop a mechanism to effectively face the economic crisis in the country.
