This brewery got it’s start in 2008, making it one of the newer breweries I’ve tried from the Victoria area. So far, I have been very impressed with the quality and variety of beers this brewery has put out. Fat Tug IPA is considered a Northwest-style IPA.
Appearance: Copper Amber, light tan head, touch of haze, solid retention.
Aroma: Touch of biscuit/breadiness, spicy hops, citrus, pine, grapefruit peel. Very typical of a “NW-style IPA.”
Taste: Citrus, grapefruit, tropical fruit with a nice bitter kick.
Overall Impression: Fat Tug is a very nice representation of a Northwest-style IPA. It’s got a good hop character with a fairly sharp hop bitterness. It still has a nice bit of malt sweetness to balance out the profile though. If you see this beer, it’s worth a try. It’s great to see our Canadian neighbors putting out some good craft beer!
Availability: Victoria, BC; British Columbia; and Seattle, WA.
