Dr. Luke Has Subpoenaed Lady Gaga In His Defamation Suit Against Kesha
Lady Gaga might want to start planning a ridiculous courtroom entrance outfit and an appropriate album tie-in stunt (faking a jump off the courtroom roof?), because Dr. Luke subpoenaed her, according to US Weekly. The beyond ugly multi-lawsuit battle between the producer and “motherf*ckin’ woman,” Kesha, shows no signs of slowing. His legal team wants Gaga deposed about some texts that Kesha allegedly sent her.
TMZ says that Luke (who has been accused of sexual assault as well as physical and psychological abuse by Kesha) wants the texts because they supposedly reveal the singer trying to enlist Gaga in a smear campaign against him which would eff with his career. (It worked.)
The texts include Kesha saying she’d been abused by Luke, and imploring Gaga to join a “smear campaign against [Dr. Luke].” Luke says that campaign included Gaga urging Sony Music to cut ties with him, and promoting “Free Kesha” on social media.
Here’s his counsel’s statement to the press:
“Dr. Luke’s counsel served a subpoena on Lady Gaga because she has relevant information regarding, among other things, false statements about Dr. Luke made to her by Kesha. This motion has become necessary because Dr. Luke’s counsel has not been able to obtain, despite repeated request, a deposition date from Lady Gaga.”
Gaga’s reps say that they already provided Dr. Luke’s team with a written statement from her, but that’s not going to do it for them. They want that Super Bowl fakery queen (can you tell it irritated me that her spider queen jump was fake?) to provide copies of the texts and to testify in person. For three hours! Depositions are slightly less painful than catheters. Smug lawyers asking insulting questions for hours and insinuating that you’re a filthy liar? Can you waterboard me instead?
Dr. Luke’s team did receive what was supposed to be a copy of the texts, but they were supposedly “redacted” so much that they were “incomprehensible,” according to US Weekly.
Gaga has been pretty open about her support of Kesha, as evidenced by an Instagram post from January 2016.
“No one needs to validate Kesha. Why is victim always the ‘liar’? Why do we let people in a position of power get away with behaving inhumanely? These guys hide behind the legal system and it’s their litigious behavior that is precisely what they use to rape these girls. ‘Give me what I want or else I will come after you’ and they have all the money and the resources to do it.”
Gaga’s press appartus told TMZ that she’s provided “all relevant info” and that Dr. Luke is just trying to “draw the press” by “exaggerating” her role in the case.
Kesha dropped the separate sexual assault lawsuit she had filed against Luke in August of last year. She’s still engaged in a lawsuit (which was dismissed in California but still ongoing in New York) to get out of her recording contract with Sony.
She’s also pressing on with her music. She’s already released three songs off her comeback record, Rainbow, which drops Aug 11. The last time she released new music was when she appeared on a Pitbull track in 2014.
Rainbow is being distributed by Sony/RCA. So, the recording industry is super-confusing. Also, if I was an and up-and-coming young songstress? I’d download Pro Tools and just produce myself. You should never trust some douche without a medical license who calls himself “Dr.”
Hopefully, Gaga will enter the conference room in something understated to reflect the seriousness of the proceedings. Prancing in wearing sequined judge’s robes and wielding a gas-powered dildo gavel would be a little much.
