Dr. Dog brought a much needed warmth to New York during their performance at Terminal 5 — singer Toby Leaman’s voice was deep, raspy and swoonably great. The band can sound quite subdued and sentimental on recordings, but their music gets more of a rock treatment in a live setting. The crowd responded accordingly, including the appropriate bouncing and arm flailing that would look positively strange in any other context. Having been a band for over a decade, Dr. Dog have their stage presence down and their camraderie is clear. The songs are tight when needed but they know when to let loose and add a little something extra to their performance.
