DPRK state media reported on 8 July (Monday) that Premier Pak Pong Ju visited the Hwanghae Iron and Steel Complex in Songnim, North Hwanghae Province.  Pak’s last observed visit to the iron and steel complex was in May 2013.  On this visit he “learned about the operation of the small furnace shop and furnace No. 1 and encouraged the workers engaged in tapping work.”  According to KCNA Pak Pong Ju “underscored the need to carry forward the working spirit displayed by the preceding generations who built 100-ton open furnace by their own efforts and technology in a matter of less than one year from scratch after the war and produced molten iron.”  He toured several sectors of the immense iron and steel complex and “acquainted himself with briquette moulding and production capability and the issues arising in combining science and technology with production.”

After his tour, Pak held a meeting to consult with the complex’s managers and officials which “discussed the measures to increase steel production by relying on the production foundation provided under the guidance of President Kim Il Sung and leader Kim Jong Il and put the briquette moulding on a scientific basis.”  During the meeting “measures were taken to supply raw material and fuel to follow the maintenance of revolving furnace and successfully ensure conditions of scientific researches of scientists and technicians.”  According to KCNA, Pak Pong Ju “called upon the workers of the complex to bear in mind the behests of Kim Il Sung who said iron and the machine are the king of industry, conduct a dynamic drive to create the ‘Masikryong Speed’, increase production and thus respond with increased production of steel to the plan of the dear respected Kim Jong Un on building a thriving nation.”
