This Skyraider demonstrates wing folding after a flight demonstration packing a full combat load of ordnance during the renowned Planes of Fame airshow. Manufactured from 1945 to 1957, Douglas Aircraft built over 3,000 Skyraiders. Equipped with 15 hardpoints, this aircraft could carry 8,000 lbs of ordnance (same as a B-17). AD-4’s saw action during the Korean conflict and one was even credited with the only aerial combat victory for the type. This example, part of the Friedkin Warbird Collection, was built in 1949 with AD-4’s being the most produced model. In 1962, existing Skyraiders in service were redesignated A-1.
