Have we seen the last of the Weeping Angels, at least in the near future? Seems that way at least from the perspective of Steven Moffat, who has admitted that he’s probably done with writing anymore Weeping Angel-centric episodes.. He has however not ruled out another writer taking a stab at them.
While speaking during an interview with Nerd³ regarding the Weeping Angels, he admitted “I’m probably done, to be honest, on what you can do with the Weeping Angels.” He acknowledged that other writers could bring a new sense to them beyond the typical chase scheme with flickering lights. He even pointed out that there had been anther Doctor Who writer who recently pitched to him a new story, saying “a very good Doctor Who writer pitched a great idea for the Weeping Angels the other day, and I was very excited about it.” He continued: “We had a long phone call about it and I went away thinking; this is going to be brilliant!” He finished with “…about two days later he admitted he wasn’t going to have time to do it. Hopefully we’ll get to it in the next year.”
So what are you thoughts and opinions regarding more Weeping Angel stories? I realize we were first introduced to them during Tennant’s era, but to me they feel more like a Smith nemesis, especially because of their hand in what happened to Amy and Rory. I almost feel like if you see them again, especially in the era after Matt Smith, that we might lose a bit of that emotional punch. Who knows though. If it’s a new idea and take on them, increasing that creepy factor, then at the end of the day, I truly can’t be against it.
