What Make a Fancy Diamond Fancy?
Any shaped diamond other than a round shape. Any cut of diamond that is not a round brilliant cut.
Why Are Fancy Cuts Considered Fancy?
Although various shapes have been popular over the years, in general the shapes and cuts of fancy diamond are cyclical just like fashion. For us, we seem to be seeing a lot of cushion sales and then next to that would be the oval and the emerald cut.
Considerations When Buying Fancy Cuts?
Another consideration is the actual shape of the fancy diamond. Is the pear too fat or the marquise too thin? Is the heart too wide or the oval too round? Unlike the round brilliant cut, which has precise measurements, for the fancy diamond, it is more a matter of taste than a matter of precision. The GIA still has grading standards that they use to say what they feel are the best proportions, but because these are not your standard stones, the most important factor you can go by if you are buying a fancy diamond is your own eye to judge what you like and want.
My Thoughts on the Fancy Diamond
I prefer a fancy diamond. My wife has an emerald cut with trillions set in platinum, which to me is one of the more traditional engagement rings. We have some gorgeous fancy diamonds in stock, so if you want to come in and take a look, give us a call. If you live out of town, we can arrange to send you pictures or to fly out to show you stones. We believe in customer service and we want to please our customer!
