I’ve been teaching my son about superheroes since birth – beginning, of course, with Superman. His brightly colored costume and superhuman abilities, paired with an innate goodness and endless supply of hope, make Superman the understandable idol for even the youngest of superhero fans.
Yet before he learned to recognize the distinctive “S” symbol or knew what followed “It’s a bird! It’s a plane!…” my son’s very first heroes — super or otherwise — were his dads. On occasion, I still catch a glimpse of hero worship in my 5-year-old’s eyes when he sees me hit a wiffle ball across the yard, or hear it in his voice when he tells me I’m the “best artist ever!” and his Papa is the “best lawyer ever!”
As a dad, there’s nothing better than feeling like your child’s hero. Give your dad, husband, or grandad that invincible feeling with a handmade Superman Father’s Day card!
WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

• red and yellow foam paper (adhesive, if you can find it)
• red felt
• white card stock
• Superman card template
• crafting knife
• scissors
• hot glue gun or fast-drying craft glue
• double-stick tape
• cutting surface (I used a thin piece of pressed cardboard)
HOW TO MAKE IT:

Step 1
Glue/adhere white card stock to back of a piece of yellow foam paper, roughly 6″ x 8″.
Step 2
Download and print Superman card template. Cut out the Superman symbol portion of the template, leaving some white border around the symbol. Tape to the front of the yellow foam paper and cut along with your white border (not the edge of the Superman symbol).
Step 3
Remove template from yellow foam paper, tape to the front of your red foam paper and repeat Step 2, cutting along with the white border around the Superman symbol.
Step 4
Using your crafting knife, carefully cut out all the inside shapes of the symbol.
Step 5
Leaving the template taped to the front, glue/adhere the red foam paper on top of the yellow foam. Cut the outside shape of the Superman symbol from both red and yellow foam paper simultaneously to ensure a smooth edge to both colors.
Step 6
Cut around the cape portion of the template, tape it to your red felt, then trim out with scissors.
Step 7
Attach cape to the top edge of the back of your card, using a thin line of crafting glue or hot glue.
Step 8
If you want your card to stand up, use the kickstand template to trim out on white card stock. Fold along the dotted line; use double-stick tape to adhere it to the back of the card as shown.
Add your personal message on the back, slip into a standard A7 envelope (fits 5″ x 7″ cards) and share it with your Super Dad!
