DIY Homemade Hand Sanitizer

By Irene Shaver @hhwife
First things first, let me say that I do think germs are a good thing as they do strengthen our immune systems.  I am not the parent telling my children to wash their hands before dinner as I am not afraid of them eating some dirt and germs.  Our bodies need practice to improve their immune systems so they are better equipped to fight off illness.  I guess I shouldn't have stopped my youngest from licking some peanut butter off the flour today ;)
So why do I make sanitizer?  Well I sell it, give it away and do use on the very odd occasion where soap and water are not available.  I love being able to hand out a safer alternative to the sanitizers we see around which contain ethanol, alcohol and/or triclosan.

The Aloe Vera and Vitamin E in this recipe will help retain moisture for your skin.  As you may have read previously, I have been using and loving doTERRA essential oils.  They are pure and so effective.  The essential oils I used in this recipe will provide the anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-viral properties.
Ingredients (makes 11 bottles 30ml each or approximately 1 1/2 cups)
  • 1 cup Aloe Vera gel
  • 1 teaspoon Vitamin E oil
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 70-80 drops On Guard or combination of Wild Orange/Lemon/Lavender and Melaleuca)

For 1 Bottle (30ml)
  • 1 1/2 tablespoon Aloe Vera gel
  • 1/8 teaspoon Vitamin E
  • 3 teaspoons water
  • 8 drops On Guard or combination of Wild Orange/Lemon/Lavender and Melaleuca)

Combine all ingredients and store in an air tight container.
