Inspired by a feather necklace I recently saw on someone whilst on a day out recently, I popped into my local haberdashery and bought me some materials to make my own DIY feather necklace in my own style.
I love the colour of the feathers. I’m thinking of making another in gold! It’s not the easiest of DIY’s but it gets easier as you go along and I think it’s one of my prettiest, but that’s subjective. So without further ado…
The how to…
1. You will need: Two feathers, black beads, round silver beads, longer silver beads, nylon wire, jump rings, crimping beads, cutters, pliers and crimping pliers. Super glue is optional.
2. First of all I suggest you prepare one end of each piece of nylon wire following the photos above. First sliding on a crimping bead, followed by a closed jump ring and looping the end of the wire back through the crimping bead. You need total of 4 pieces of wire two about 15cm long and another two about 3cm long depending on the size of the beads.
3. Tighten the nylon wire over the jump ring and crimp the bead. On a pair of crimping pliers there are two indents. First you need to close the crimping bead with the second indent (furthest away from the end of the pliers). Then make the bead round with the first indent.
4.Slide the beads onto the nylon wires, at every 15th bead I slid a sliver one onto the wire (I had done mine prior to step 1).Repeat steps 2 & 3 on the opposite ends of the nylon wire.
5. Repeat steps 2 to 4 on the smaller pieces of nylon wire.
6. Attach each part using the pliers on the jump rings and add the feather in the middle.
7. Attach the chain.
There we go! I’ll be wearing this in my next post. Have a wonderful week!
