After I laid the newspaper on the table, I made the green leaf/stem for the pumpkin. I cut out a leaf pattern using the green construction paper. Then I cut a small strip of green paper and folded it in half several times length wise, so that it was roughly .25 wide. Then I used the scissors to poke a small hole into the center of the leaf. I folded my green strip in half and gently pushed the ends into the hole. I folded and glued the ends down on the backside of the leaf using regular glue (the glue stick wouldn’t hold it in place securely). I had to add a small amount of glue into a few of the folds so that it would stay down. I set the leaf aside so that the glue would dry while we worked on making the rest of the pumpkin.
I took two strips of orange construction paper and had my youngest son put glue (glue sticks) on the end of one strip. Then I placed the other strip over the first strip. Keep adding strips until your strips look full. (see photos below) Once you have added plenty of strips, begin gluing the other ends of the strips together using the glue sticks. After you have completed gluing the strips, add the green leaf to the top of your pumpkin using regular glue.
Note: I added a small amount of regular glue to a few of the strips that weren’t staying together using the glue sticks. The glue stick was easier for my youngest son to use without over doing it on the glue.
