Diy // Chic Maker Review

By Elliefrost @adikt_blog

This week I recieved a little gift from Chic Maker to test for myself. I had come across the concept before, and it sounded like a great way to learn new jewelery making techniques, especially because you don’t have to be a jewelery genius to try it.

The idea is pretty simple, much like the Joliebox or Glossybox concept. Every month you pay a subscription fee and you receive a box in the post filled with beads, cords, chains and instuctions on how to make a piece of jewelery with your own two hands. It’s great! You don’t even have to leave your house to DIY!

The box comes beautifully presented and organised and if you take out a three-month subscription you get a starter kit sent with your first order. This includes three different types pliers, a tape measure and jewelry glue. I definitely think that what is inside the box is quality, the beads from this month were beautiful, and if you follow the instructions to the point using the starter kit, the jewelery will last. You can wear your creation every day and it definitely not fall apart.

I’ve just got one downer. This February’s kit was a beaded bracelet combination and it’s just not my thing. I wouldn’t wear it myself. You don’t know what you’re going to get from month to month, and so you can never be sure if you’re going to like the design.I think that it’s a problem though with most box subscriptions, I subscribe to  Joliebox and I’m so fed up with receiving creams all the time when all I really want to try is new make-up!  In the end, I wanted to use the beads so I made my own DIY necklace (below). Plus really, all is not lost if you don’t like the proposed end product, this month for example, Chic Maker put up another tutorial inspired by a Lavin necklace using the supplies from February’s box. Plus on their facebook page subscibers show thier versions of the months tutorial so you wouldn’t be lost for inspiration if you wanted to change it up a bit.

The box is definitely worth a try though, especially if you’re looking to learn new jewelery making techniques!
