Digestive Biscuits with Whole Wheat and Oats Homemade

By Shalinidigvijay @shalinidigvijay
Okay baking again.
What does one do when the weather is so beautiful . Misty and cloudy and blessedly cool. You need a cup of tea and some biscuits to dip your tea in.
That's a very desi Indian thing to do.
Why, on the other side of the world people dunk whole donuts into coffee???
Digestive biscuits are fabulous. And when they are home made...doubly so.
Did you know that McVities made the first digestive biscuits in Scotland and they were a great help in curing-guess what ?
Flatulence!
I heard it in the passing. My boys are you tubing the history of food brands at the moment.
So another tidbit. Prince William loves the McVities chocolate digestive cake.
Of course you knew that.
One delicious thing loves another.
So.
Homemade with wholewheat and oat flour. And the agent for the gas.... Bicarbonate of soda. The humble baking soda.
Try them out. They are quite yummy .You know what is in them and they stand their own even after being dipped in tea. And they solve the gas issues.
For the
Digestive Biscuits  with Whole wheat and Oats homemade...
You need
3/4 cup whole wheat flour or atta
3/4 cup rolled oats coarsely ground
3/4 cup soft brown sugar or ground sugar
60gms butter I used Amul at room temperature
1/4 tsp bicarbonate of soda or baking soda
Pinch salt
2tablespoons milk

Pre heat the oven to 180C and bring out your cookie trays.

Place the flours ,baking soda and salt in the bowl. Add in the soft butter,Crumble the flour and butter to bread crumbs texture.
Add in the milk and combine to form a dough.
If you can't work it.... Place it in the fridge to chill.
Bring it out and roll over a floured surface to 1/3  cm thick.
Cut into rounds and place on a greased cookie tray.
I  made some fighting Ninjas...or ghosts or whatever takes your fancy.
Prick once or twice with a fork and pop into the oven.

20 minutes and 1 minute to broil on top...

Ta da ,they were awesomely done.

The tray that broiled more was crunchy and buttery and crisp and wholesome.
And it held its own after being dunked in.

Cool and store in an airtight container and enjoy.

If you wish to make it healthier replace 2 tablespoons of the flours with wheat bran.

Enjoy your bite of good health ,with the knowledge that what you are eating is wholesome, healthy and low cal.
And no trans fats.
And you get to control the fiber.Ok and here's Sweet Dog expecting some crumbs to fall his way...
But the digestive biscuit held...didn't fall!!!

So what are you baking today???
