Microsoft’s new operating system, Windows 8, is right around the corner and PC manufacturers have started launching their special products designed to accommodate the OS. HP has officially released the Envy X2 tablet, which is similar to Asus Vivo and Transformer Book. HP is back on track after the failure of TouchPad. Envy X2 from HP can be used as a tablet and notebook. This isn’t something new, but yes, it carries a few unique enhancements.

Design

The tablet and the keyboard are made of aluminum, making it easy to hold. Envy X2 looks all the more neat when the tablet and keyboard are connected. The screen has a resolution of 1366×768 pixels which enhances picture clarity. Unlike run-of-the-mill gadgets Envy X2 has a couple of speakers right below the screen. To toggle between the keyboard and the tablet, use the switch on top of the keyboard. The Intel X86 Clover Trail processor powers Windows 8, the latest operating system. The operating system has a new look with simple designs. The home screen has big squares and tiles which display snippets of information. Envy X2 is the first device to have the full version of Windows 8, making it possible to connect to desktops at work and home.

This ultra modern device has an HD touch display screen that measures 11.6 inches. The screen can be easily detached from the keyboard and placed back with the help of magnets. The screen is thin and it easily fits into your palm. The main8.0 mega pixel camera on the screenis great for clicking pictures and the HD camera on the front is perfect for video calling. Playing games, watching videos, checking emails and more can be done with this tablet. HP boasts of having an IPS screen with 400 nit brightness. With 64 GB of storage space you can store music, apps, videos, pictures and if you are looking for more space, a microSD card can be used.

Keyboard

The keyboard when attached to the screen is perfect to function as a computer. The keyboard has an SD card slot, USB ports and HDMI in its base. The whole device weighs about 3.1 pounds when fixed together as a laptop. Envy X2 is slightly heavier than MacBook Air,however, that does not matter much. The keyboard has an aluminum finish with comfortable keys. Envy X2 has an edge over other tablets when it comes to battery life. It has something quaint to offer. When you use the tablet and keyboard together, only the battery of the keyboard is consumed. This spares the tablet’s battery entirely, for future use.  The keyboard and the tablet cannot be purchased separately. You have to go with the combination or stay without it.

HP Envy X2 is a wonderful combo of the laptop and tablet. This new device is sure to make many heads turn. Samsung Ativ Smart PC which is expected to launch anytime soon, is considered competition. Things will get clearer once the gadget hits the market. However, with the full version of Windows 8 and other impressive features, Envy X2 is going to prove a tough competitor.HP has rightly called it “Envy”.
