Did Someone Order Cactus? by Michelle Dunne
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Did Someone Just Order Cactus ( The Turbulent Series) by Michelle Dunne is a 2013 independent publication. I was provided a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Good friends, Jen, Alison, and Erin experience difficulties with life, love, and relationships as they enter the pivotal years of adulthood. Each girl has their own plans and dreams, but life throws them a few major curve balls that have them re-examining their lives.
Men, careers, insecurities, weight problems, alcohol problems, and a host of other odd ball characters and issues compound the lives of these young women. Each of them are grappling with some really heavy problems especially when it comes to men. But, one of these girls will face a betrayal that will give all of them a huge wake up call.
This is high drama, very New Adult/ Chick lit and most likely will appeal to that audience exclusively. I was impressed with the writing and the pacing of the book and the Irish brogue was well done. These women had some really funny experiences that kept the tone from becoming too heavy. I also like how when real trouble started , sincere desire to change the path each were headed on brought these very strong women together. The situation was so volatile that the destruction of their bond would have been expected. But, instead these women took the bull by the horns and drew themselves up and faced the realities they had been avoiding. They came out on the other side stronger, more mature, and hopefully better equipped to handle whatever is next for them.
This book is an excellent foundation for future installments in this series. Because it's summer and vacation is on our minds I would suggest this one for the poolside or beach.
Overall this one gets 4 stars.
