Dhanish Ali Released on Bail

Activist Dhanish Ali, who was arrested and remanded for forcibly entering the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC) and disrupting the broadcast on July 13, was released on bail by the Colombo Chief Magistrate Nandana Amarasinghe yesterday.

He was released on a cash bail of Rs.25,000 and two sureties of Rs. 500,000 each.

Delivering the order, the Magistrate stated that there were insufficient facts to keep the suspect in remand custody under the Public Property Act. He has also been instructed to appear before the Cinnamon Garden Police today (16) to record a statement.

On July 13, Danish Ali along with one of his aides had forcibly entered the national television Rupavahini and threatening the journalists and the staff, has disrupted the scheduled TV program on air to broadcast his own message. The CID arrested ‘Danish Ali’ at the Katunayake Bandaranaike International Airport when he was attempting to leave the country.
