Last week we passed along word that Sir Ben Kingsley was working on a “secret” project with Marvel, where he mentioned worked with most of the production crew from Iron Man 3. Now, from our friends over at Latino Review, looks like we now know that this project is in fact a Marvel One Shot, that seems like an attempt to win over fans displeased with the Mandarin twist in Iron Man 3. Latino Review reports:
Apparently, Marvel knows deep down that what they did with the Mandarin character in Iron Man 3 was straight up BUMJUICE! The movie lost me at the reveal and I fell asleep shortly afterwards. According to sources, Marvel wants to make it up to fans so in the one shot, the REAL Mandarin is furious with Aldrich Killian and Ben Kingsley’s character Trevor Slattery for the mockery they made of the real Mandarin’s identity and legacy. The real Mandarin wants to set the record straight.

Now how this will play out, is anyone’s guess. I am in the minority, where I enjoyed the twist to Sir Ben Kingsley’s character, where being the “face” for Mandarin extended to the actual promotion of the film. Who they could get to fill these shoes is anyone’s guess, but you’d assume that if they take the time to do this, then this won’t be the only time we hear from the “real” Mandarin, and for me, it’ll be hard to beat Kingsley’s take.
So what do you think about this plan of Marvel’s to give fans the “true” Mandarin? Should they have stuck to their guns, or is going back and acknowledging and correcting something fans saw as a mistake that way to go?
