Season 2 of Netflix’s adaptation of Leigh Bardugo’s fantasy novel series, Shadow and Bone, is now in production. But that’s all we know about the show’s second season, and it could be a long time before we see it on TV or on our phones again.
Will it, or will it not? According to the newest speculations, Shadow and Bone season 2 will begin production soon, but you’ll have to keep reading to learn more. The series is also competing for a People’s Choice award in the category of “sci-fi/fantasy show of 2021,” and we’ll learn if it wins on December 8 during the presentation.
Release date
While Shadow and Bone received the long-awaited Season 2 renewal, there is no word on when new episodes will be available on Netflix. Heisserer just announced on his personal Twitter account that Season 2 had been completed. Despite the fact that it was unclear if the show would be renewed, Netflix gave Heisserer and his crew the go-light to begin creating new episodes in the hopes that it would. Fortunately, they were correct, and Shadow and Bone are already far ahead of the game in Season 2.
Cast
For the second season, Shadow and Bone entire core cast is scheduled to return. Jessie Mei Li as Alina, the mapmaker-turned-Sun Summoner, Ben Barnes as General Kirigan, aka The Darkling, and Archie Renaux as Malyen “Mal” Oretsev, Alina’s best friend and all-around nice man Freddy Carter as Kaz Brekker, dubbed “Dirty Hands” by his opponents, Amita Suman as Inej Ghafa, Kaz’s right-hand lady, also known as “The Wraith” for her espionage ability, and Kit Young as Jesper Fahey, Kaz’s best buddy and highly hilarious sniper lead the Crows. Milo the goat will be back for the second set of episodes, so don’t worry.
Danielle Galligan as Nina Zenik, a Grisha Heartrender who finds love with a Drüskelle, or witch hunter, named Matthias Helvar, portrayed by Calahan Skogman, is one of the characters that is anticipated to return with a larger presence in Season 2 of Shadow and Bone. Skogman will also reappear, as will three Grishas who work with the Darkling: Zoya (Sujaya Dasgupta), Genya (Daisy Head), and David (Lucas Pasqualino). Expect to see more of Simon Sears’ and Julian Kostov’s characters, Ivan and Fedyor, the Darkling’s most devoted Hearts Renders.
Plot
While Shadow and Bone have already shown a proclivity for deviating from the novels’ plotlines by introducing the Six of Crows duology so early on, we have a solid sense of what to anticipate from season 2 of Shadow and Bone.
The story’s central conflict will depict Alina and Mal’s separate journeys to the Dregs, as they try to keep the former out of Kirigan’s grasp. That may not be that easy now that Kirigan has his day-walking Nichevo Ya.
Shadow and Bone season 2 would, according to Ben Barnes, “drift away from the trajectory of the books… I believe the character becomes a bit more representational in Alina’s mind of what the darkness is and a bit symbolic, and I wanted to maintain him as a human being,” according to Collider. Of course, he’s in Heisserer’s show as an actor, and he confirmed that this is exactly how he wants the program to proceed. In any case, Season 2 of Shadow and Bone will most likely focus on Kirigan’s experience of being alone.
Wylan Van Eck, who joined the Dregs in the novel, is another new character we could encounter. Heisserer told Collider that there will be “100% more Wylan,” which he essentially guarantees.
Nikolai Lantsov alias Sturnhound, who commands a pirate armada, is also a strong contender for inclusion in Season 2 of Shadow and Bone. Nikolai is a crucial character in the books, serving as an ally to both Alina and Mal, so it’s almost a certainty.
