Intimate Wedding Photography in Fort Wayne

Part 1

I remember getting the e-mail from Gloria and Greg a little over a year ago. It was just before Christmas, and I was traveling and I got the kind of e-mail that makes photographers jump with joy. A description of the most wonderful, relaxed and joyous celebration plans spanning over 2 days including an intimate graveside ceremony and a wedding bash at a retired fire station. But then I saw it – the date. We were already booked for their wedding date. Gutted doesn’t even begin to describe it. So, reluctantly I sent along an e-mail telling them we weren’t available but throwing a hail mary and suggesting we had other dates free if they changed their mind. I hit send – wept into my pillow and put it out of my mind.

A week later another e-mail came. Gloria and Greg wanted to move their wedding to a date that fit our schedule. What!?! How amazing is that? I did an obnoxious victory dance that looked a little like it belonged in the Ministry of Silly Walks.

Sometimes things are just meant to be. And we were meant to photograph Gloria & Greg’s wedding.

This is the story of the first day of their wedding celebrations. It was an intimate affair with just their closest friends – one of whom became licensed to perform their graveside ceremony. They started the day by decorating the Frie Station which would be the location of the wedding party the following day. There were strings and strings of bunting and festoon lights as well as little home-made games. Dozens and dozens of little hand-made details that Gloria & Greg laboured over to give their wedding a special touch.  After a quick change and a meal, everyone headed out to the graveyard where Gloria’s mom was laid to rest for a picnic and the official marriage ceremony. Each friend took their turn saying a few special words and reading from favorite books and poems. We felt honoured to be a part of the tiny little circle allowed to be witness to their official wedding – just friends, the spirit of Gloria’s mom and us. Very few photographers get to be a part of such a special event.

The ceremony was followed by some play time on the swings (it would have been rude not to!), some sunset shenanigans and even a little night time shoot out on the bridge in Fort Wayne.

All in – it was an absolutely perfect day.

Part two (the party!) soon to follow….
