Destination Wedding Photographer India

What a way to celebrate Christmas & the New Year, as a Destination Wedding Photographer India.

Having already experienced 3 days of Indian hospitality, with partying and Mehndi celebrations.  Now came the day for the ceremony.

Everything we could wish for was there at our disposal.  Gaayatri’s sister Namita had organised everything, personal drivers were on hand to ferry us from hotels to wedding locations.

The morning assembly times had been arranged.  We were to be ready and waiting to head on over to Bridal party preparations at the Master Academy of Makeup Art.

Gaayatri – a leading Asian Make up specialist was of course doing her own makeup, whilst her professional friends were tending to the rest of the wedding party.

Plans were being made for the Groom, David to arrive at the wedding in a parade of classic British cars.  Organised by Gaayatri’s Dad – Tutu, many of the vehicles having been restored under his own guidance.  Jumping back into a car we were crossing Delhi once more to meet with David and the classic cars.

The Groom and the awaiting classics, were parked in line and ready to head off when we arrived.  I chose to be co-pilot in a classic mini as the procession navigated it’s path through the Golf Links neighbourhood.  It was quite a sight seeing all these classics together, raising a few eyebrows as they drove by.

Arriving at the wedding ceremony, we were greeted by an amazing property.  Beautifully modern in design, plenty of glass, water channels and modern art.  Something that upon seeing you say “That should be in a magazine….” to which you are told “It has…it’s one of the most talked about homes in India!”

Unlike many of the weddings I have previously captured, Gaayatri & David’s day had a particular energy to it.  In the past I have worked around many family & guests with an over zealous wish to take pictures and get in the way.  I’d been forewarned that there would be another photographer, a gift to the Bride & Groom!  Great I thought, someone to leave doing all the group shots, while I concentrate on what I’m best at, subtle, natural documentary photography.

The other photographer turned out to be 5 photographers, working between pictures and video.  Finding my moments of subtlety was going to be interesting!  It was time to raise the game and still keep true to how I roll.

The skill behind capturing specific moments is completely unique to the photographer and the subjects.  It’s the life journey of the photographer, the books that have been read, the art that has been appreciated, the life experience that has been led.  All these and more add into the when and why the photographer sees and feels something, then presses the shutter and selects precious fractions of fleeting seconds….

We were treated to an wedding experience amongst India’s finest.  Bollywood royalty Shah Rukh Kahn and his family were there, being long standing friends of the family.  Even with the wedding being quite intimate for Indian standards, SRK’s presence still caused a ripple of commotion.

On the whole, some subtlety was achieved within my photography, if not within the day itself.  The images gained, I love and some aspects warmly and naturally showing the connection shared between people.  I love the ceremony with all it’s rich colours and tradition, the look from Gaayatri as David places a necklace around her neck.

The Groom having his slippers taken and then having to buy them back, the hugs, more hugs and the laughter!
