Des Rocs Triple Imperiale

Deep in the Belgian province of Hainaut, nearly on the border with France, Brasserie des Rocs has been brewing small batches of their unique beers for 36 years. Located near the 12th century Abbey & farm known as Abbaye des Rocs, the brewery initially called itself Brasserie de l’Abbaye des Rocs but eventually just shortened it to Brasserie des Rocs.  Over its 30+ year history, Des Rocs has grown slowly as demand has risen thanks to the resurgence of specialty beers within Belgium and the increase in interest from foreign markets.  Today, they’re producing around 1,000 hectoliters of beer.

Appearance: Murky brown, tan head, good retention.

Aroma: Clove, cinammon, spicy, cocoa, malty, dark rum, raisins, prunes, dates, figs, black tea, chai.

Taste: Cocoa, spicy, toast, malt bitterness, dark fruit, black tea, chai.

Overall Impression: While the label is a bit contradictory in its title, the beer is a strong dark ale. Rich and full-bodied with a medium-long finish, Triple Imperiale is a bold and flavorful beer. Des Rocs is one of the pioneers of the Belgian craft beer movement, and their Triple Imperiale is a great way to introduce yourself to the brewery.  With the encroaching wind, rain, and cold; this is a beer that’ll warm you up inside and out.

Availability: Nationally in smaller quantities. Look for places that carry other D&V International beers.
