Denim Week: The Skinny Jeans

By A Mused Blog @Amusedblog

I don't quite remember when the infamous skinny jean originally hit the scene, but it seems they've got some strong staying power. I have a love/hate relationship with skinny jeans. Unrelenting, and at times rather unforgiving, they seem to divide denim wearers into two parties: those who favor the bootcut, and those who swear by their skinnies.

9 times out of 10 I find that low-rise jeans are not flattering. If you've got hips, thighs, or more curve to you than say, a ruler, and are over the age of 17, you probably do not belong in low rise jeans. For reasons I will never understand, it seems that low rise jeans are on a constant pilgramage to the ankles of their wearer. Enter the mid-rise skinny. So perfect that there are almost no words. Bend, squat, hell, laugh with confidence. No need to pull yourself up by the belt loops ever again.
Denim cleaning tip:With dark denim (and all denim in general), it is best to wash it as few times as possible. The jeans in today's outfit I have only washed once. I've owned them for 3 years. I rarely, if ever wash my jeans. So what happens if I spill something on myself? How do I keep them clean? Well, spot cleaning, and throwing them in the freezer. It might sound a little strange, but the freezer actually can sanitize you jeans! The low temperature of the freezer will kill the bacteria in your jeans that can cause odor. Just leave in for 4-6 hours. Of course if you land yourself in a mud puddle, it would be best advised to throw your babies in the washer (on cold, and inside out - and no dryer!).
Have you tried the mid-rise skinny fit? What do you think? Happy August!
