‘Dematagoda Ruwan’s’ Mistress Remanded

Colombo Chief Magistrate Nandana Amarasinghe yesterday remanded till April 18 the mistress of Ruwan Chamila alias ‘Dematagoda Ruwan,’after she was produced before Court.

When the matter was taken up before the Magistrate, State Counsel Hansa Abeyratne appearing on behalf of the Attorney General stated that the officers of the Criminal Investigation Department seized two  and-a-half kilos of gold which belonged to a woman suspected to be the mistress of ‘Dematagoda Ruwan’.

He further stated that they will refer the two and-a-half kilos of gold jewelry seized from the mistress’s residence, to the National Gem and Jewellery Authority for valuation.

He also said that the CID had seized more than five luxury vehicles purchased under the names of Dematagoda Ruwan’s 26-year-old son and several others. The State Counsel then urged the Magistrate to further remand the suspect, as investigations were continuing.

Ruwan was arrested on October 29 by the Illegal Assets and Property Investigation Division of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

President’s Counsel Anuja Premarathne appearing on behalf of the ‘Dematagoda Ruwan’ pleaded to release his client under any suitable bail condition.

The Magistrate also ordered to further remanded Ruwan Chamila alias ‘Dematagoda Ruwan’, who was charged with amassing billions of rupees worth of properties through the sale of narcotics, till April 18.
