Defending Champs HNB Beat Commercial Bank ‘A’ 2/1

The Mercantile Hockey Association (MHA) League Tournament 2022 got off to a start at the Torrington Astro Turf on Saturday, May 28.

‘A’ Division – Defending Champions, HNB ‘A’ fighting every inch of the way, beat their arch rivals, Commercial Bank ‘A’ 2/1 – Deshan Tilanka put Commercial Bank in the lead and Damith Bandara scored the equalizer and the winning goal came from Nuwan Mahara for HNB.

‘B’ Division – A hat-trick of goals by Rasika Vishwajith gave Allianz Insurance a convincing 5/2 win over Hayleys Group, Gihan Peiris and Udara Gintota scored a goal each for Allianz, whilst both goals for Hayleys were scored by Bodhika Dias.

In another match in the same division, HSBC scored a thrilling 3/2 win over Commercial Bank ‘B’ team. Dilshan Laheer, S. Soundarajan and Ashan Ratnayake scored for the winners, Jaliya Dollawa and Sudarshana Dissanayake scored for the losers. ‘C’ Division – Singer Sri Lanka Vs. Seylan Bank ended in a nil-all draw.

Seylan Bank was held for the second time, this time by Browns Group, 2- all. Pathum Proboda and Nilusha Kahingala sounded the boards for Seylan. Tryston Nicola and Mohamed Irshad scored for Browns.

The third game in the same division was a thriller all the way, where John Keells Group snapped up a 1-0 win over HNB ‘B’ team, the solitary goal came off the stick of Godwyn Solomon.

The tournament will be continued on Saturday, June 4 at the same venue, commencing 7.30 am.
