The Ministry of Defense has unveiled a new policy restricting the issuance of firearms for self-defense to a maximum of one per person.
This decision stems from an extensive survey conducted to evaluate the distribution and utilization of firearms among civilians, according to the Ministry.
The Ministry further stated that exceptions to this one-firearm policy will only be granted following a detailed security assessment. The ultimate authority to approve such exceptions will remain with the Ministry of Defense.
Ongoing evaluations of firearms allocated to civilians are being conducted at the Ministry premises. Initial findings indicate that over 1,500 firearms have been distributed to civilians, with some individuals holding multiple weapons.
Previously, on October 4, the Ministry of Defense announced that all firearms and ammunition issued to civilians for self-defense must be surrendered to the appropriate authorities by November 7. The Ministry emphasized that these weapons would be returned only after a thorough review and reassessment of the necessity for possession.
