Had posted earlier about this interesting post in Daily Mail which quotes the actor Salman Khan as saying - 'I'm not asking for a government job, I just want to travel to the UK!' Bollywood star Salman Khan's legal troubles deepened with the the Supreme Court 'prima-facie', insisting that it cannot stay his conviction in the 1998 black buck poaching case to enable him to travel to the UK for a film shoot. The Bench, however, did not take a final stand and reserved the plea for pronouncement of final verdict after hearing the arguments of Khan's lawyer and the Rajasthan government. Among a slew of reasons the Bench gave not to stay the conviction, head Justice S.J. Mukhopadhyay gave the most hard-hitting, stating: "You say you are facing hardship and difficulty in discharging professional duties because you won't get a UK visa if the conviction is not suspended. the famous and powerful many times feel that they are above law ! –Before law everyone is equal is a common statement – and one may hope that everyone is equal in the eyes of the law, however when it comes to legal justice, there is one group that definitely gets off easier than the rest .. .. Celebrities may technically be subject to the same rules as us civilians, but when they break them, the consequences are far less severe. Is it fair? No way. Is it reality? ~nothing to do with the blackbuck case – the situation is same, jurisdiction is different but Justice perhaps is the same … … When a famous person gets arrested, they go through the same booking system that everyone else does - thus, the wonderful and public collection of infamous celebrity mugshots. The difference comes in court, where it seems like wealthy stars can commit numerous crimes and still walk away with just a slap on the wrist. Where regular people would face lost licenses, huge fines, and jail time, celebs get rehab, community service, and anger management courses.
