Decorating the Porch for Fall with an Outdoor Rustic Sign

By Lindaleyble @LindaLeyble

So, I came across a wonderful, rustic Welcome sign made by Shayna of The Woodgrain Cottage - such a nice touch to her absolutely beautiful fall porch.

I am in the midst of decorating my front porch and felt that something like that sign would be a great addition. My husband had an old wooden board taking up space in our shed, sooo… I felt it could have been a little taller…but for now…it was perfect.

I had bought some chipboard letters last year and I only used a few of them (so like me!), so I spilled out the two packets to see what I could spell. The letters were not all that big, so I couldn’t do what  Shayna  did – one large Wecome sign, so  I decided that two words would be better – “Happy Autumn!”

I didn’t want to add a color to the letters (there was going to be color everywhere else), so I painted the letters in Annie Sloan’s Graphite Chalk Paint.

I wanted the letters to stand out and be a little different so I lined them with some of Annie Sloan’s gold wax.

I placed the letters on using Carpenter’s Glue for Exterior Use (noticing I had made a mistake – the “p’s” were not “p’s” so I had to search – and hope I had two of them…I did) and let it dry overnight.

Luckily the wooden board had two holes up at the top. I put some twine through them and attached it to a nail that’s there to hold up our Christmas lights – to hold up the sign.

A simple little project but it makes me happy when I see it! Now, I have to get to work and add a few more things to the porch.

That tall plant is millet, in case anyone is wondering!

Thanks for coming by!What have you done for fall decorating outside?Let me know in the comments.
