Decorating the Nursery!

By Ourbabyblog @OurBabyBlogx

I remember when I first found out I was pregnant, one of the main things I pictured myself doing was sorting out the spare room, I browsed online for some inspiration and was completely in heaven, I then turned my creative head on and started thinking about the colours and designs I could do, as we didn't know the sex yet we wanted something that was neutral yet still colourful and that could grow with baby well into her childhood without it being dated!

Choosing the Colours!

The spare room in our house was a really horrible dark purple color when we moved in, it really made the room feel small and dark and rather claustrophobic, so the first thing we wanted to do was to neutralise it with a few different paint colours, so we chose a gorgeous buttermilk color for 3 of the walls & to add that splash of fun and colour, we went for a bright lemon zest color as a feature wall (opposite the window in our case), it really added that pop of color to the room and made it stand out! Using light colours such as yellows and pastel tones can really brighten up the room and make it feel so much bigger and more airy!
Furniture
Once you've decided on your colours, you can then choose what type of furniture you want, you'll probably be looking at getting a cot, wardrobe, chest of drawers and maybe a changing table too..try keep it in theme with the rest of the room too if you can! We started off with dark oak furniture at first (involving some DIY on our part), instead of spending a fortune on overpriced furniture we got a few bits off eBay and decorated them ourselves! Once she became a toddler we bought her a toddler bed from a local buy/swap page for £40 which will now be her bed till she's into her childhood again so we've saved ourselves a whole wad of cash!

Accessories

I'm talking fluffy bean bags, giant rugs & funky curtains! Things they really won't notice until they're toddlers but they will make the room look complete, even a few night lights and possibly some glow in the dark lights to place around the room too! A nice idea is to create a photo collage on your chosen wall, perhaps order some polaroids of your favorite photos and hang them across using some fishing wire and little pegs! Why not purchase a couple of blank canvas' and put your little ones footprints and handprints on them and use them as some wall art! The possibilities really are endless with accessories, create your own storage boxes too (I have a tutorial coming up too if you need some inspiration)!
