Death Cab for Cutie
Live @ 1131 Humboldt St, Bellingham, WA. 22.11.97. Living Room Acoustic.
The fact that this exists is exciting enough but that Ben Gibbard tweeted recently that he was in the process of digitising it for release? Oh man.
Sure their last album was a snooze fest but for the first decade of the 21st century Gibbard was the god father of introverted indie lyricism. They had pop hooks coming out the wazoo around the middle of the zeroes, so much so he had to palm some of his genius off onto side projects that were equally well received.
I love listening to old death cab live shows, more so than any other band purely because of the natural evolution they’ve shown within their career. Most bands will play maybe one old song a show just to keep the old guard happy and new fans are like ‘wtf is this?’ but with DCFC they can, and do throw any songs from this night into shows these days and they don’t seem out of place.
