Brief Synopsis – Strange things happen at a family funeral when the patriarch dies and secrets come out from each of the mourners.

My Take on it

This is an American remake of a British film made 3 years earlier and as funny as that one was, this film takes the humor to an even higher level.  The cast is amazing and each and every one of them excel in this film while also making it feel so realistic. Here, The family dynamics are hilarious and feel so genuine in all that transpires here.

Peter Dinklage stands out among this stellar cast because he is usually not known for his comedy. In addition, Danny Glover is cast against type here and is so amazing in this comedic role of an elderly and grumpy uncle. The script has been played with a bit and this helps enhance the way things play out in a really funny manner.

Despite this film being a bout a family reunion at a funeral. It is still a family reunion and that helps keep things feeling so much like a real family gathering. This is definitely one of the few remakes that exceeds the original in so many ways throughout.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – During a chaotic scene, Uncle Russell (Danny Glover) states: “I’m too old for this sh*t!”. His favorite quote in role of Roger Murtaugh from the Lethal Weapon film franchise. This would be the second non-Lethal Weapon film he has quoted this line in after his cameo appearance in Maverick (1994) with his Lethal Weapon co-star Mel Gibson. (From ">">">">IMDB)

Rating – Oscar Worthy (9/10) (no change from original review)
