I can’t remember a time when I didn’t like The Smashing Pumpkins. They have a unique sound and years of stories and great music. Billy Corgan recently released deluxe versions of the band’s first two albums: Gish & Siamese Dream. These releases include old concert footage, previously unreleased photographs, and several demos. I came across a video of Billy singing Daydream today and thought it was amazing. He also talked about the demo, which he had originally done the vocals on, before the final version was released with D’Arcy Wretzky on vocals.
I’ve always loved Daydream to begin with so I was happy to hear the demo had been released. After all, it’s always interesting to hear how a song started out! I found it on YouTube and immediately thought, “This is beautiful! I like this version too!” I just had to write about it for today’s entry.
Daydream was released from the album Gish on May 28, 1991. In the video I watched of Billy, he talked about how the song was influenced by the band, My Bloody Valentine, which he heard on a college radio station one day. To see the video, click HERE.
