Attanagalle No. 02 Magistrate Manjula Karunaratne ordered yesterday to remand an ex-Police Constable and another person who allegedly tried to commit a crime under the guise of checking the bank accounts of the Chief Incumbent of the Radawadunna Imbulgas Ovita Vivekashrama Vihara on the pretext of being undercover Police officers of the Criminal Investigation Department.
The two suspects, a retired Police Constable, a resident of Telijjawila and another man residing at Makavita Tammita, Gampaha were remanded.
Four persons had gone to the Radawadunna Imbulgas Ovita Vivekashrama Temple posing as CID officers on Thursday (25) and tried to check the bank accounts of the Chief Incumbent of the temple, Ven. Lenava Mangala Thera. At that time, a group of Dayakas had apprehended the two suspects and handed them over to the Nittambuwa Police.
Nittambuwa Police Station Officer-In-Charge Chief Inspector Chandana Kumara stated that the two, together with two other persons posing as undercover CID officers had tried to check the bank accounts of the Chief Incumbent Thera of the temple.
