Barca striker David Villa made a dream comeback last night against Real Sociedad and contributed to a 5-1 thrashing by adding the last goal.
Barcelona’s David Villa had a dream comeback against Real Sociedad and scored a goal putting the icing on the cake after eight months of torment. Villa has been out of action for eight months after breaking his tibia bone in the Club World Cup tournament last December but now that is all in the past as the striker means business.
Barca thrashed Real Sociedad 5-1 with goals coming from Carles Puyol, who is also back from injury, a brace from Argentine superstar Leo Messi, one from Pedro and bringing up the rear with David Villa.
Real started off well and it was one of those typical games that start off strangely, largely due to the vacation period. Messi is as fresh as ever as pointed out by Javier Mascherano and it’s looking good for Barca as Tito Vilanova’s reign begins.
It looks like it’s business as usual at Can Barca as they passed the ball about and tormented Real, not giving in an inch.Real had a pretty good game but they were no match for Tito’s Barca as their defense was atrocious and shot down in flames.
But last night really belonged to David Villa who came on with 15 minutes to go. Seven minutes from time Villa scored and the Camp Nou fell apart. No one was happier than Villa himself who proudly showed off a T-shirt with a picture of his family on it along with the words: “imposible sin vosotras” or “Impossible without you” – a message clearly directed to his wife and two young daughters. Villa went straight to the Barca bench and embraced Emili Ricart, the physiotherapist who has been his guide throughout his long road to recovery.
After the match David Villa said:
“It has been a difficult time and it is nice to be back.
“I am pleased to be able to say I can forget about the injury now.
“I have had five weeks training at the maximum level but my body still struggles to reach the levels necessary to play more minutes”.
An awesome comeback from the guy from Asturias in northern Spain. It’s also a great start to La Liga and Barca start with a well deserved 3 points. Real Madrid on the other hand could only manage a draw with Valencia and leave 2 points on the table.
