The Albums You Need to Know About Every Week
This week’s top releases are here to mess with your head, and you’re going to enjoy it. David Lynch is 67 and, thankfully, still as creepy as ever! The master composer of eerie vibes follows up 2011′s Crazy Clown Time with The Big Dream, a crawling collection of dimly-lit vignettes and modern blues tones. The collaboration track with Lykke Li, “I’m Waiting Here”, is gorgeous, as is The Big Dream if you give it some time to grow on you. Eric Copeland of experimental electronic band, Black Dice, and one half of Terrestrial Tones (with Animal Collective’s Avey Tare) is dropping his next solo piece in the form of noisy electronic chops and hyperactive summer psychedelia. Gauntlet Hair takes their noise pop into some interesting sonic territory with their sophomore release, Stills, a darkly sentimental record that works electronic throbbing into post-punk sounds. Finally, LA-based duo, Soft Metals, take their experimental synth-pop a step further into space with their latest, Lenses, which is a trippy dance record that jumps genres lightly and gracefully.
