Dave's 'Churchillian Moment' is Nigh!

By Davidduff

Of course, even by my hyperbolic standards that is a pretty silly title because the original 'Churchill moment' came some 74 years ago when this country stood in an existential peril not seen since 1588 at the approach of the Spanish armada.  However, it is fair enough to say that what hopes 'Dave' has left of going down in history as the man who, if he didn't save his country at least managed - just - to save his party, depends utterly on the next few days at the Tory conference and on his speech to the tiny band of the faithful and the much larger mob of the exceedingly doubtful - which includes me!

Two of his own MP doubters have now 'ratted' (another Churchillian habit!) by joining UKIP thus bringing about a pair of most unwelcome by-elections which the Tories are likely to lose - big time!  If over the next few days 'Dave' fails to throw some good, red meat to his parliamentary party I suspect that more of them will look even harder at the likely voting pattern in their constituencies, now being wooed by the ever more popular Nigel Farage, and decide that discretion is the better part of valour.

What must make 'Dave's' little mouth purse with fury is that until yesterday everything was looking so good.  The Labour party conference made a sixth form debating society look positively sophisticated and to describe Ed Miliband's 'speech'(?) as juvenile is an insult to teenagers everywhere.  One can only hope that 'Dave' and the Old Etonian prats with whom he surrounds himself realize that nobody trusts him on Europe and it is critical that he begins now to mark out in some detail the lines beyond which he, personally, will not lead Britain during any forthcoming negotiations with Berlin-Brussels.  And he must make it clear, without any doubt, that he will throw his prime ministerial weight behind an 'OUT' vote if his minimum demands are not met.

Do that, Dave, and the world, or at least, this 'Septic Isle', is yours!
