Fancy cocktails, a romantic yet relaxed atmosphere and delicious food, Browns restaurant in Leeds has all of the attributes of a great date night venue. I’ve only ever visited Browns in the day (they do fabulous afternoon tea if you are that way inclined) so I’d never thought of it as a romantic venue but on an evening the atmosphere changes significantly. A few weeks ago I was invited to sample the Valentine’s menu with my little black dress and my favorite person. Here’s what we got up to.
One of my favorite things to do on Valentine’s day is go out for a fancy meal. Going out for dinner is one of my favorite things to do in general but for an occasion like Valentines, I like to mix it up and try somewhere new. Trying out a restaurant you have never been to is always a bit risky for a special occasion but it’s fun to enjoy a change of scenery. We started our meal with a couple of cocktails, a Moulin Rouge for me and something fruity for Si.
Am I the only person who can’t resist a bread basket? This one came with a cute little dome of butter. I opted for smoked salmon for starters that came with more bread (oooops) and it was delicious, probably my favorite part of the whole meal. Simon ordered the asparagus with poached eggs and parma ham which is rather breakfasty for 7pm at night but breakfast food is the by far the best meal of the day and I’m guilty of eating breakfast around the clock.
The seabass was light and lemony but I wasn’t a huge fan of the crab fondue that was served on the side. Simon ordered the chicken on a bed of risotto. Delish! The best part of date night of course is always dessert which in this case is a chocoholic’s dream. We chose the sharing platter which arrived with a trio of delicious desserts in miniature form. The chocolate fondant was a little on the cold side but it was incredible none the less. We ordered from the Valentine’s menu so I’m not sure if this dessert is available on the everyday menu but I did see incredible looking chocolate brownies floating past the table that I am going to go back just to try.
I only realised once I looked back at these photos that it literally looks like I went out wearing only a cape and heels. I can assure you I’m not that brave (it was -2 degrees) there is a LBD under there somewhere.
Browns is a great date night venue but it’s also perfect for those extra large getogethers with friends and family. It has a beautiful grand piano slap bang in the middle of the restaurant and music adds a lively ambiance. The atmosphere sizzles and the staff are lovely. Fancy a date night at Browns? Book early here to avoid disappointment! Have you tried Browns?
